The Deeper Truth of Self on Canvas—Jhalak Singh

Instagram: @creativity_tales

Jhalak Singh grew up in Delhi in a middle-class neighborhood where appearances often masked deeper struggles. That duality became the very foundation of her art. Her work explores the contrast between light and shadow, using muted colours and stark contrasts to convey the hidden emotions and stories that lie beneath the surface. The tensions and conflicts she witnessed growing up inspired her to delve into the most human of themes—relationships, the invisible weight people carry, and the truths that ordinary life obscures. Despite studying economics and political science at Motilal Nehru College, Jhalak’s true passion always lay in art. She is self-taught, working in mixed media with a particular fondness for acrylics and charcoal—materials that mirror the very contrasts she seeks to explore.
