Finding unique art style through years of experimentation and failure

Week 02- Artist Note
Finding my unique style through years of experimentation & failure.

@bhavkala.sonakshi

This week I returned to working with cement and cloth.
I had started my first piece with this combination some time ago but left it incomplete as I felt the idea incomplete. After recently experimenting on smaller studies with cloth, cement, and resin, I finally felt ready to continue the second piece with fresher perspective and ideas.

Over the years, while painting remained my primary focus, I made it a point to keep exploring different mediums. Each material behaves differently, and understanding it increases possibilities for combining them.

🎨 Acrylic – 2016
🎨 Watercolour – 2017
🎨 Cement – 2020 onwards
🎨 Oil – 2020
🎨 Murals – 2021
🎨 Nail gel extensions – 2022 onwards
🎨 Gypsum – 2023
🎨 Ink – 2023
🎨 Resin – 2025

What I’ve learned through this journey is that mastery in art often comes from understanding materials deeply enough to let them collaborate with each other.

And perhaps the most valuable lesson: in the early stages of any creative practice, working with limited resources forces you to develop adaptability and problem-solving skills.

Those constraints can shape an artist’s instincts far more than access to expensive tools.
