Vandan Manchanda’s Journey Through Charcoal and Realism

Instagram: @vandantheartist

Vandan Manchanda’s story begins, as many of the best stories do, with a single act of devotion. Born and raised in Delhi, he drew his first serious work as a young person — a statue of Hanuman Ji. From that starting point, his hand learned to render gods, then cartoon characters, then human portraits, eventually mastering the breathtaking discipline of hyperrealism with charcoal. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) from Motilal Nehru College, but art has always been the truer language. Despite having no formal art education, Vandan’s self-driven commitment to honing his craft has led him to exhibitions and competitions across Delhi, where he has earned recognition at institutions like IIT Delhi, DTU, and SRCC. He has also served as a judge at art competitions at Shaheed Rajguru College and Motilal Nehru College. The moon, the sun, clouds, rain, the sea — elements of the natural world flow through all his work.

AT THE BHAVKALA COLLECTIVE

Vandan brings to the Bhavkala Collective a mastery of charcoal that few self-taught artists achieve.

His hyperrealistic works demand a second look — and then a third. There is something quietly extraordinary in watching someone render the world so precisely that the medium disappears, and all that remains is the feeling of being truly seen.
