Sarve Kailash – Print of Oil Painting

Sarve Kailash is an oil painting by Sonakshi Agarwal.
  • Q) What was the inspiration behind the painting?
We always see many paintings of Mahadev Shiva, but never a painting of his abode, Kailash. And it breaks my heart a little that Mount Kailash is in the current border of China; hence, I named the painting Sarve Kailash—forever, everyone’s Kailash. It was like I wanted a part of Mount Kailash forever within me, near me, like a remembrance of the existence of this divine abode. A calling to free it, maybe from all the borders and boundaries.
  • Q) What is personified in the painting?
Like the purity of the morning, the saffron color of sunrise on Mount Kailash symbolizes renunciation and Sanatan dharma.
  • Q) Please explain your unique experience in the process of making “Sarve Kailash.”
It took me 6 months to complete this oil painting. The most challenging part was the peak. The hyper-realism is the showstopper, as observed when exhibited in the Indian Habitat Centre, Delhi, in December 2020.
